The project

This was a three-person class project built around giving elementary-school assignments a game-like progression system. Completing work earns XP, XP leads to levels, and students can work toward rewards created by their teacher.

Teachers approve completed assignments before the XP is awarded, so the progression system still sits on top of an actual classroom workflow.

Two sides of the same app

The frontend is a React Native app built with Expo and TypeScript, connected to a Flask API backed by PostgreSQL and SQLAlchemy.

  • Students: assignments, rewards and a profile showing level, XP, score and class rank
  • Teachers: assignment creation, submission approval, reward management and a class leaderboard
  • Separate navigation and interfaces for student and teacher accounts

My part

I worked on the frontend and UI. The student and teacher sides share the same application, but they do not really behave like the same application. Students need to see their work and progression; teachers need the controls behind it. Most of my work was figuring out where that boundary should be and keeping each side focused on what that person actually needs.
